TIP
& TRICKS TO USE WITH THE INCREDIMAIL SMILEYS AND AVATARS
Here’s a few tips and tricks for you to try with
my smiley and avatar ‘Incredimail’ letterstyles.
Here's a trick for you to use which I can do
on my computer with these smiley/avatar pages. Try it out and see if
you can do it too.
I have Word 2000 NT and for back up
email, I have Outlook Express 6.
I can take a used copy of any of the
smiley emails - copy and paste it into 'Outlook Express 6' (delete the
message) and the new email I re-use - I can just mouse over any of the
smileys/avatars on that page - copy and paste them inside that message. Excellent for sending friends without ‘Incredimail’
I can do the same thing with these smiley's
within the letterstyle on 'Incredimail' in my system but am unsure if
it works on everyones 'Incredimail system'
Anyway -
hope you may also find new tricks to use with these in your emails -
and please let me know.

Are you having
trouble saving and or copying individual smiley emoticons, avatars and
icons?
In some Microsoft
programs (eg Word NT, Word 2000) when you save the web page - it
doesn't copy all the files and folders - And I don't seem to be able to
scan over and right click and save to my own folder the images I
select. (That’s because I have used a template and inserted a second
folder and images inside it - so it only saves the outside folder)
SOLUTION:
Take a New Microsoft Word document - NOW copy/scan over the
entire web page (or the part you want) that has the Incredimail
smileys/avatars/icons/images on - right click/save (which saves it to
your clip board) now go to your Word document/ click on and PASTE (it
takes a few seconds - but you will end up with the whole webpage (or
the part scanned over and saved) on your word document. (NOW) save that
Word document as a file you name. That gives you a hardcopy for later.
Now go to File at the top left of the page and select 'SAVE AS WEB
PAGE' - your Word program will convert the page to a web page on your
computer.(Use the same name) Now go to it, open the FOLDER it has
created (same name but _ files )- You will find all the images on that
page have been converted to single files, you can then select any
(rename to your names)and copy them to your PICTURE folder you have
ready for the ones you want. NOW you can insert them into the
Incredimail system just like a picture. Delete the surplus pages and
images to the rubbish bin.
TO INSERT THE SMILEYS/AVATARS/ICONS etc into the body of the
letter (email) you are writing - all you have to do is exactly like you
would when inserting a picture.
Go to "INSERT" at the top of your New Mail email -
click on - select 'PICTURE' from the drop down screen - click on. A new
screen opens - you will see Picture Source /blank window/ Browse -
click on Browse which then takes you to your folders/Pictures - just
select the folder that has those "Smileys/avatars/icons/emoticons
in" select 'ALL FILES' at the bottom on type of images from the
drop down screen - which will show you all the images in that folder.
Then select the image you want to insert into your email. Click OPEN -
which then takes you back to the 'PICTURE SOURCE' which now has the
image page shown - click OK - low and behold the image is inserted
directly to where you left the cursor on your email page. SIMPLE/QUICK
The next time you need an image - you will find the 'Picture
Source' will open directly
to that folder ( or the last folder opened)
HAVE FUN - Questions may be answered by emailing me at JdPyle@xtra.co.nz

Emoticons
at your Fingertips
If you save
emoticons to insert in your emails you no doubt have quite a collection
by now. If you use the 'insert picture' feature in IM it can take a
while to go through all of them to find the one you want to use.
Well,
here's a little trick I use to keep my favorite Emoticons close at
hand.
Compose an
email and insert all of the emoticons that you plan on using most
often. Close the email without sending and answer "Yes" when
asked if you want to save it in your "Drafts" folder.
Now,
anytime you want to insert your favorite emoticon just copy and paste
from the preview screen of the 'draft' you just saved.
I HAVE A PROGRAM CALLED PHOTOPHILIA WHICH IS
AN EXCELLENT SYSTEM TO OVERCOME THIS – IT HAS TO BE BROUGHT BUT WELL
WORTH THE INVESTMENT. YOU ARE ABLE TO VIEW ANY PHOTO OR IMAGE ANYWHERE
ON YOUR COMPUTER – COPY /CREATE NEW FOLDERS/ MOVE/ CREATE WEB PAGES AND
A HOST OF OTHER USES. THIS WAY YOU CAN VIEW THE
IMAGE/SMILEY/AVATAR/PHOTO YOU WISH TO INSERT INTO YOUR EMAIL –
SEPARATELY AND ABLE TO FIND QUICK AND EASILY FROM THAT AND THE NAME OF
THE FILE. IT SHOWS SIZE, PIXELS AND AREAS OF THE IMAGE/PHOTO
THIS PROGRAM IS
AVAILABLE AT www.pholix.com

QUESTION: I received the emoticons, now how do I save
them to use in IM?
ANSWER:
Forward
the e-mail containing the emoticons to yourself - but instead of actually
sending it, click on the X in the upper right hand corner to close it.
IM will ask if you want to save it. When you say "yes," it
will be saved automatically in your "Drafts" folder where you
can access it at any time. Then you can just copy/paste your emoticon
of choice into any email you're sending. Hope I made myself clear. :-)
============================================================
QUESTION:
I have a
question along this same line...At one time I knew a trick for
inserting a signature or emoticon wherever you wanted it on the letter
but I have totally forgotten how I did it. Can't remember if it was a
keyboard shortcut or what!? I'm trying to keep sigtags in an animation
folder so I can alternate the ones I use. I want to insert them where I
want them on the page...not just in the right corner. I hope I'm making
this clear. Or if you have any other advice on using sig tags like they
are used in Outlook Express. I don't use OE, I use Incredimail- just
want to be able to use sig tags.
===============================================================
ANSWER:
Put
your cursor where you want the signature/animation to appear in your
e-mail. Then go to your Animation Style Box and right click on the
animation you want to insert. Choose "insert into edit space"
from the drop down menu and the animation is placed at your cursor
point. If it isn't exactly where you want it, or you want a different
animations, press Control + Z to undo it and choose another.
==============================================================
QUESTION:
Hi
Suvata....hope you can help me with a problem that is sort of the
opposite of this. When I first got IM, I put a lot of pics into the
animations folders. Now that I know how to insert pictures (duh!) I want
to remove these and save them to "my pictures". I've tried
everything I can think of to move the files, but nothing works. Not
even sending the pics in an email to myself! Thought I could just copy
and paste but it doesn't work. Any suggestions???
=================================================================
ANSWER:
Once you
install a graphic into the animation style box it becomes an .IMA file
and cannot be read by any program other than IM. However, you should be
able to email it to yourself and copy/save it from the email. You
cannot do this in IM, so you will have to email it to yourself from IM
and open it in Outlook Express.
===============================================================
QUESTION:
I am not
very computer literate and was wondering if, when you had time, if you
would please let me know how you put the music to the letter.
=================================================================
ANSWER:
I keep a
directory named "Media" where I save all my midi files. If
you don't have a directory yet, create one and save the midi files to
it.
ˇ
Go into Incredimail & press the "New
Mail" button.
ˇ
Go to your style box at the left and press the
"Sounds" tab. At the bottom left is an "Add"
button. Press that, find where you saved the midi file and click on it
to add it into Incredimail.
The midi
will be available any time you want to add music to future letters. A
midi file is added to your letter just like any of the sounds on the
Sounds tab of your Style Box (by clicking on the name of the file in
the Sounds Style Box). Printed out this looks harder than it really is
. . . really!

Thumbnails
and Screen Shots
Screen shots and Thumb nails
for for letter creators
Many more people will down-load a copy of your
letter creations if they can see a picture of what it looks like,
without a pic it is a pig in a poke or a lucky dip and few people are
prepared to risk wasting time and space on an unknown down-load.
So how to do that?
This is how I do it, I
am not sure if all windows versions behave the same way so we might
have to get you to test this on your Operating System.
You have designed this
great letter style and want to show it off to all the Incredibuddies
and let them have a copy.
Go to new mail in
Incredimail and locate your masterpiece.
Close down the list of
styles and expand your letter to full page if it isn't already.
Then at the same time
press the Ctrl key and the Print Scrn Key This takes a picture of what
is on your screen at the time and puts it in the tempory folder where
copy puts stuff. NB Alt Print Scrn will take a screenshot of your
active window.
Next open your
favorate image program PSP or whatever and open a new blank page and do
the paste comand, either off the edit menu or the right click menu.
You should now have a
picture of your letter style that you can resize to a reasonable size.
About 300 x 225 pixels is a good size.
Save that image as a
jpg file.
Then upload to
imgstudio as per post 5533 or your own paid website, as long as you can
remote access it.
having done that you
can now put a thumbnail picture of your creation in your post as well
as an attachment for people to click on to download.
If you have your own
storage area on your own website that allows remote linking you can
also link the pic to that rather than using an attachment.
Congratulations you can now
wow them all with your creation and many more will take a copy of it.
Happy
letter creating and may we see your thumb nails from now on.

That looks
terrific, Martine! When I make my screen shots (and yes I do one for every
letter at my website) I open IncrediMail & then click "new
mail". I use the "minimzed" version of the letter, not
the full screen version. Then when I go to resize it in PSP7 I resize
it to 175 x 159 (pixels) and save it as a .jpg. If that helps you at
all. Hey, I just learned how to all this myself a couple of months ago,
with the help of Suvata & Diane & all our other buddies....
It's not that hard, once you just jump in & do it :-)
===============================================================
HERE'S MY WAY -
An ADVANCEMENT I THINK ON THE ABOVE
Either of the
above ways saves a copy to your clipboard. What I do then is open my
'PAINT' programme, place my sensor over it - right click and paste
(this insert the copy from your clipboard to your 'PAINT Screen' - NOW
move the picture around to suit your image requirements. SECURE by
clicking off it. THEN select the area of the picture you want by click
and drag - Then RIGHT click over the selected area - This opens a drop
down box - SELECT - copy to -
(Select the folder you want that new image saved to) name the
new selected image in the format required (or convert later) and save
Now you have a
selected image or the only part of the original screen shot of your
Incredimail Letterstyle you wish to display on your web page in the
folder with the rest of your Incredimail letters ready to add to your
web page when you create it.

Tips,
Tricks and Tutorials (Reply-Only Folder) - Backing Up/Restoring
IM Letter Styles
Backing up and Restoring your
letter styles,
keeping your style box folders in tact
We all know
it's important to backup your letter styles periodically ... but if
you're like me, you've spent a lot of time organizing your style box (renaming
letters and moving them into logical folders). If you just back up all
the IMF files and reinstall them, the letters will revert back to their
original locations and names. Here's how to maintain your style box
settings.
BACKUP
Copy c:\program_files\incredimail\data\letters to a CD-ROM, ZIP Disk, or another area of your hard drive.
You may want to repeat
step 1 for eCards, Animations, and Sounds.
To
maintain your style box settings, also backup a file called content.ucd, which can be found in c:\program_files\incredimail\data.
RESTORE
If IncrediMail is
open, close it before performing this operation.
Copy all of your .IMF
(letter style) files from your backup location to c:\program_files\incredimail\data\letters.
In Windows Explorer,
browse to c:\program_files\incredimail\data\letters and select
200-300 letters at a time. Hit the 'enter' key on your keyboard to
install them into IncrediMail. If you try to do too many at once, you
will run out of memory and lock up. This may take a while if you have a
lot of letters.
Repeat process in step
2 for all Animation, eCard and Sound files that you backed up.
After you have all
your letters, eCards, sounds, etc. reinstalled copy content.ucd from your
backup location to c:\program_files\incredimail\data
Open IncrediMail and
everything should be in the the proper folders.

Tips,
Tricks and Tutorials (Reply-Only Folder) - Saving and Restoring
Your eMail
Saving and Restoring Your eMail
To backup
all your saved email all you have to do is copy all the files
(Inbox.imh, Inbox.imm. etc.) from c:\program_files\incredimail\data\identities\{long
alpha-numeric string}\message_store to your backup media (another
area of your hard drive, floppy disk, zip disk, CD-ROM...). Make sure
you copy the file called "folders.imm" to the same
location. That is the file that tells IncrediMail the names of any mail
folders you have created and what goes in them.
Now after
you reformat or need to restore for any reason, just reverse the
process and copy all the files back into
c:\program_files\incredimail\data\identities\{long alpha-numeric
string}\message_store. Don't forget to restore "folders.imm"
too.

INSTRUCTIONS - DIRECTIONS FOR
MY INCREDIMAIL IMAGE/PHOTO ALBUMS OF
SMILEYS, AVATARS, ICONS, TRAINS & NEW
ZEALAND STUFF
PLEASE READ
CAREFULLY TO OBTAIN THE FULL BENEFIT.
To maintain
quick web page downloads to your computer - so that you may flick
quickly throughout my INCREDIMAIL WEB SITE - I have designed it is as
follows.
1. Once you click on
"MY INCREDIMAIL IMAGE/PHOTO link off MY INCREDIMAIL HOME PAGE it
will open to an INDEX with instructions repeated - very quickly.
2. There will be an INDEX
showing each of my INCREDIMAIL PAGES - as named from MY INCREDIMAIL
HOME PAGE - by selecting the page you require and clicking on - it will
flick to the images/photos of the (or most of them) INCREDIMAIL LETTERS
that are on that page.
3. Again this should load quickly
as the thumbnail images have been selected and designed for that.
4. After viewing and
selecting ( Remember the ones you want by their names) YOU will find a
direct link to the webpage on this page usually at the bottom or below
the photos with the links to download the LETTERS automatically
(REMEMBER) Once you flick
over to the webpage - NO Image of the
letter/s you have selected is shown on the original web page- JUST the
link to download the letterstyle directly into your INCREDIMAIL 'NEW
MAIL' section.
There will be only
images/photos etc of what was used in that INCREDIMAIL LETTERSTYLE on
that web page. The purpose of this is - IF you would like to add
the image to your own folders to use in any of mine or other INCREDIMAIL
LETTERS you can do so by clicking on the image and saving or placing in
the emotipad system. Some pages do not have this feature - but
directions are given in TIPS & TRICKS of how to save them anyway to
your own computer by another method. (READ ABOVE)
The whole
purpose of my INCREDIMAIL SECTION of my website is so that people on
slow connections - such as myself - can enjoy quick downloads and quick
flicking between pages. No long waits for pages to load. No waiting for
large images/photos to load. AND then being able to select small
images/photos/animations to save to their own computers to use in
INCREDIMAIL LETTERS - all on the same site.
So I hope you all
sit back and ENJOY the pleasure.
