PYLE LOCATION NAMES - MAPS

These are some of my articles on Pyle message board at Rootweb to show the maps and history links to members of the Pyle-Pile family which may be of interest to others in their own research.

Many of these Maps (As they were very large sized and slow to download) and many of the links have now disappeared - SO I have resized these MAPS to research sized thumbnails for general reference - uploaded to our site for family members and checked out the rest of the links to ensure they also work at present.

From all the information I have posted of late, as any good genealogist

knows, you must have period maps of the location of your ancestors and good

ones at that covering that period.

Here are just a few of the map sites to bring up which shows all those

locations that are indicated on Godwin Arnolds charts such as Wallop, Nether

Wallop, Upper Wallop, Wherwell, Basingstoke, Andover. The Maps range from

1575-1823 and to get the full size and appreciate just where PYLEs

originated from (this tribe anyway) click on the map and allow them to

download. Not only does it give a good map development, history, and area

cover, they contain additional information connecting whats on the chart. The

MAPS are well worth viewing just for their design and intricacy.

Battle of Worcester 1651

To all PYLES/PILES/PYLE/PILE this was probably as an important an event as any in the history of our clan and with the 350th Anniversary of this event I suggest you all check out the internet sites. Put Worcester 1651 in Google and you will return 6760 hits and there is a magnificent amount of material to view.

During the Civil War, it appears that village and even family allegiances

were divided, and both Charles I and Cromwell knew Wallop. The Pyle Family

was divided, one being a high ranking officer in Cromwell's army, another

Pyle of Wallop was a Royalist agent. Nether Wallop's overlord was John

Paulet, 5th Marquis, nicknamed 'the loyal Marquis', for his seat at Basing

was the centre of Royalist resistance. After the sack of Basing in 1645,

victorious Cromwell marched from there to Wallop with his Ironsides, where

they stayed the night.

I may even find some link to where all my English Pyle cousins went through

these location histories.I make a quick estimate that 6.power of 5 (7776

individuals) if each family averaged 6 offspring could claim Charles & Ann

Pyle (1806) as GGGGrandparents and if you half that for males 2888 Pyle

member are floating around out there., less the deceased from the earlier

generations which amounts to approximate 50% giving something in the region

of 1444 possible live male Pyle members from Charles & Ann Pyle. Of those

something like 180 cousins are in New Zealand live or dead.- wheres the

rest?

====================

Pyle Cemetery, Kingsport, Tennessee, named for Mexican War veteran William

O'Brien Pile, grandson of German immigrant Daniel Pfeil.

Pile, Pile's wife, several of his children, and possibly his parents (George

& Elizabeth Pile) are buried there. My kinsman Kermit Pyle in Kingsport has

done a wonderful job putting this information on the Sullivan County,

Tennessee genealogy page. William O'Brien Pile was my g-grandfather. Our

name has gone from Pfeil to Pile to Pyle.
