FREIGHT STAMPS 1894-97

Printed AT Government Printing Office, Wellington

DESIGN

Freight stamps were similar in size and format to the Newspaper stamps of 1890 issues. Design consisted of the letter “N.Z.” above a curved “RAILWAYS” above a coat of arms with “FREIGHT” below and the denomination in words at the foot. The whole was surrounded by borders set up in type, consisting of an innerline of circles then a band of lozenges: the freight issue had an outer wavy line to the border, measuring 24+30mm
